A timer in Apple's Clock app exists only until you dismiss it. Swipe the alert away and the timer is gone, with no record of when it rang. If you stepped out, silenced it in a hurry or someone else tapped Stop, there's no way to check.
A finished timer stays on your list for two weeks. Its card reads "Completed at 2:15 PM", and the detail screen shows the full date and time. Open the app whenever you like and the answer is right there. Count-up timers get the same treatment, so you also have a stopwatch history with the total time and who stopped it.
Kitchen"The rolls came out at 5:52," not "a while ago." Time the rest of dinner from a real number.
Naps and babiesThe nap timer says exactly when it ended, and the count-up says how long it ran, on every phone in the family.
Work and studySee when a focus block or a meeting countdown finished, even if you were in another app when it rang.
In Shared Timer, a finished timer stays on your list for two weeks marked "Completed at" with the exact time it rang. No more guessing whether it went off at 6:15 or 6:20.

Yes. Every count-up timer works as a stopwatch, and when you stop it the app keeps it on your list for two weeks with the total time, when it was stopped and who stopped it. That is your stopwatch history, and it syncs to everyone sharing the timer.
