The alarm didn't make a sound. On iOS 26, timers ring as real alarms that sound even when the phone is on silent or in a Focus, as long as alarms are allowed: check Settings → Shared Timer → Alarms. If alarms are turned off, or on iOS 17 and 18, the timer alerts with a notification instead: check that notifications are allowed (Settings → Notifications → Shared Timer), and note that the silent switch and Do Not Disturb mute notifications.
My timer rang while my phone was on silent. Is that expected? Yes. Since iOS 26, Shared Timer countdowns are system alarms, like alarms in the Clock app, so they ring through Silent mode and Focus and keep ringing until you tap Stop. If you'd rather have quiet notifications, turn alarms off in Settings → Shared Timer → Alarms.
A shared timer isn't appearing. Make sure you're signed into iCloud (Settings → your name) and opened the share link on the phone with the app installed.
I paid but sharing is still locked. Open the unlock screen and tap "Restore Purchase" while signed into the same Apple Account you purchased with.
Can someone else edit my timer? No — only the person who created a timer can edit or cancel it. Anyone can stop a shared count-up, and everyone sees who stopped it.
Timers aren't showing on my Apple Watch. The watch app is installed with the iPhone app and shows the timers your iPhone has created or joined. Make sure the iPhone is signed into iCloud (Settings → your name), open Shared Timer on the iPhone once so it publishes your list, then open the watch app again. New timers usually appear within a minute. Creating and sharing timers stays on the iPhone and iPad.
The watch didn't tap me. In the Watch app on your iPhone, go to Notifications → Shared Timer and make sure alerts are allowed, and check that a Focus isn't silencing them. The watch taps once when the timer finishes and twice more over the next 30 seconds; opening the app or stopping the timer cancels the reminders. If the app is open on the watch when a timer finishes, it keeps tapping until you press Stop.
How do I add the complication? Press and hold the watch face, tap Edit, choose a complication slot and pick Shared Timer. It shows your soonest timer; tap it to open the app.
